Organisers of the Miami Borward Carnival are not bothered by the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

The success of the carnival heavily relies on the support of people from the Caribbean. This has made the organisers pull out all stops to execute promotional campaigns on radio stations in Jamaica, as well as other Caribbean countries. However, despite the threat of Hurricane Matthew to the Caribbean region, organisers of the carnival are convinced, the revelling will not be affected.

The Gleaner recently spoke with the vice-president for the Miami Broward Carnival, John Beckford, who revealed that some patrons have already settled in Miami ahead of the big parade.

"We are not worried about the Hurricane. It will pass close to Florida as well, but the carnival is on Sunday, and most people will be flying in by Wednesday and Thursday, plus some are here already. So far, JetBlue has not indicated that any flights will be greatly affected, so people can come up to Florida, and we expect them to be safe," he said.

The carnival will feature several events and cuisine catering to different Caribbean islands, as well as a wide range of entertainers. Beckford also highlighted that the line-up was strategically formulated to deliver a unique experience to all patrons regardless of their home country.

"Turn out, because this is the time of the year that we come out and represent. There is a Caribbean pride that runs in all of us and carnival is created for us to put that pride on display. This is also a time for people to relax, let their hair down, and have some fun. Tickets for Miami Borward Carnival may be purchased at www.miamibrowardcarnival.com."

Some of the acts booked for the carnival include Kes The Band, Desperado Steel Orchestra, Burning Flames, and Allison Hinds, among others. Up-and-coming Jamaican recording artiste Mollo B, will also be making a guest appearance as the winner of Zip 103 FM's Miami Broward talent competition campaign.

Beckford is also advising patrons to come out to the venues early so as to avoid waiting in traffic for extended periods. Events leading up to the grand finale - a parade on Sunday, October 9 - are already under way.
