Last-Minute And Affordable Things To Do For Father's Day 2017

Saturday, Jun 17 09:37 AM

Panicking because June 18 is drawing closer and you haven't made any reservations, bought any tickets, or otherwise prepared for Father's Day? It's okay—we're in the same boat, which is why we've compiled a list of last-minute events to attend with daddy dearest. All of the concerts, car shows, food events, boat festivals, and other events below are $20 or under

1. BBQueer Beach Bash
Claim the beach for Queerdom and fathers/parents (the celebration is certainly not limited to men, or to people who have children). Bring a blanket to spread on the sand, watch for seals, and enjoy free food, music, and good gay company. Daniella Anka Moalem well perform after dark. Hosted by Dapper Down.
(Ballard, free)

2. Different Drummer Father’s Day Show
Multi-genre chamber ensemble Different Drummer features collaboration by violinist and fiddler Brandon Vance, cellist Gretchen Yanover, bassist Anna Doak, and tap dancer Mark Mendonca, who, with the exception of Mendonca, are all members of the NW Sinfonietta. They will perform tracks from their 2016 album debut as well as new material at this Father's Day show (wherein all dads receive a free drink ticket). Kids under 16 get in for $10.
(Greenwood, $10/$20)

3. Father's Day at Bluwater Bistro
If your dad likes breakfast, and you like your dad, consider taking him to Bluwater Bistro this Father's Day. The special menu features an 8 oz. center cut New York steak, breakfast potatoes, and eggs for $15. Add a Bloody Mary for $4.50.
(Leschi, $15-$19.50)

4. Father's Day at Lunchbox Laboratory
If your dad happens to have a mustache, you can take him to Lunchbox Laboratory on Father's Day, where he'll be presented with a free burger. What if he doesn't have a mustache, you ask? Lunchbox says they'll be giving out fake ones too...so bring your dad regardless—he'll end up eating free. Not too shabby.
(South Lake Union, free)

5. Father's Day at the Ballard Locks
If your patriarch's a fan of classic cars, the age-old English tradition of Morris Dancing, and pipe and drum music, or just appreciates unique ways of spending the holiday devoted to him, suggest these events at the Ballard Locks Summer Concert Series. The car show lasts from 10 to 3, Sound & Fury Morris & Sword will dance at noon, and the Elliott Bay Pipe and Drum Band will tootle and bang at 2.
(Ballard, free)

6. Father's Day Breakfast and a Movie: On the Map
Pair a viewing of the sports film On the Map, about the Israeli basketball team the Maccabi and their underdog victories (the Stranger's Rich Smith called the movie a " thrilling documentary about an underdog Israeli basketball team whose 1977 championship win paralleled Israel's military dominance in the region") while munching on bagels and fruit.
(Mercer Island, $12)

7. Father's Day Car Show
Take Daddy (or another parent figure) to see classic cars, motos, and modern vehicles, buy him some raffle tickets, get him a bowl of chili from the cook-off or food specials from neighborhood, dance with him to classic tunes, and just generally show him, in a Burien sort of way, how much you care.
(Burien, free)

8. Father's Day Sunday at the Seattle Children's Museum
Dad (or any "father figure") will get free admission to the Seattle Children's Museum, 22,000 square foot playspace for kids 10 months to 10 years old, with one child's ticket.
(Seattle Center, $10.50)

9. Classic Weekend: Father's Day Weekend Boat Parade
Feed your seagoing fantasies and tour almost 50 yachts at this downtown marina (most of which will be available to board), courtesy of the Classic Yacht Association. There will also be toy boat building.
(Downtown, free)

10. Fenders on Front Street Vintage Car Show
The coolest old cars in Issaquah and beyond will compete for Best of Show and other honors (Cuz It’s Cool, Most Unique, Favorite Pre-1950, Favorite 1950-1969, Favorite Post 1970, etc.) while you enjoy coffee and donuts at the Triple XXX and the historic Shell Station, music by the Fabulous Roofshakers, and, when the time is right, a trophy presentation, which Lance Lambert of the Vintage Vehicle TV show will emcee.
