Despite the chilly weather, winter can still be beautifulOne Toronto tradition that’s returning in the new year will prove just that.

The Bloor-Yorkville Icefest is a massive ice festival that takes place annually in the heart of the city every February. Several fun events are held that are suitable for all ages, including ice carving competitions, extravagant ice sculpture tours, maple syrup taffy stations and much more.

Last year, the event attracted over 35,000 people as well as 40 local businesses. Surely, this year will bring the same magic to the streets of Toronto!

It's that time of the year again when Toronto hires Elsa to do fancy ice stuff. IceFest in Toronto is such a sight to see. Something to look forward to in the Winter. This photo was from the 2012 IceFest with the theme of "Winter Wilderness." A mind-boggling 30,000 pounds of ice was brought in for the competition, which was sponsored by various local businesses with proceeds going to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. For those interested to check this out, the 2015 IceFest happens on Feb 21 and 22. Since today's theme is Frozen, did you know: Originally, Queen Elsa was intended to be the villain of the story. However, when the character's major song, "Let it Go," was played for the producers, they concluded that the song was not only very appealing, but its themes of personal empowerment and self-acceptance were too positive for a villain to express. Thus, the story was rewritten to have Elsa as an isolated innocent who is alarmed upon learning that her powers are inadvertently causing harm and struggles to control her powers with Anna's help.
